What makes this course valuable to you:
Perspective from a Patient/Nurse/Nurse Educator
Since the 21st Century Cures Act allows patients to read clinical notes, I reviewed the note through my patient portal.
What I found was concerning!
Important details about my symptoms were inaccurate. Other information relevant to my injury claim was omitted. The note appeared complete, but it did not accurately reflect what had occurred during the appointment.
Although the AI generated the documentation, my physician remained professionally and legally accountable for the contents of that record when signing the note.
That experience changed the way I think about
AI in healthcare.
That's why I developed the CHECK-AI™ Framework—for myself, my colleagues, and every nurse navigating AI-supported care:
- C — Clinical Situation: What is happening with the patient right now?
- H — Hold & Think: Pause before acting on AI.
- E — Evaluate Accuracy: Is the AI correct and complete?
- C — Check Risk: What happens if this is wrong?
- K — Know Your Action: Accept, verify, override, or escalate.
- AI — Acknowledge & Integrate: Document, communicate, and learn.
The
CHECK-AI™ Framework
- It is not about rejecting AI
- It is about using AI responsibly
Because AI can support your practice—
but it should never replace your clinical judgment.
